Brahms' transcendent Requiem is his greatest personal statement of hope and solace, offering no dogma nor images of judgment and terror found in the great Latin Requiems of Mozart and Verdi.
Deeply affected by the death of his friend and mentor Robert Schumann and his mother, Brahms knit together verses from the Lutheran Bible to offer consolation to those who mourn, and set them to music of sublime beauty.
Hawai'i Vocal Arts Ensemble will be joined by singers from the community, members of the Hawai'i Symphony, and soloists Martina Bingham and Buz Tennent, conducted by Timothy Carney.
